The Sculptor
In moments when you feel stuck,
when you feel like you’re going
round and round and round in circles,
take your foot off the pedal
and roll up your sleeves.
Now is the time to get your hands dirty,
to imagine what could be if you
tried something new.
To feel clay ooze through your fingers
as you squeeze and shape,
becoming one thing, and then another –
and while you’re at it, why not
pick out a glaze? Or other
things with which to adorn
your creation? It matters not
whether you make an owl, or a
pot, or something else entirely.
It’s temporary, mostly,
but it feels like something more…
It’s a door, open, inviting you in:
new places and people you’ve not met before, with
encouraging smiles and kind words.
It’s support, a creative space in which
to play. To feel proud of the things
you’ve made. To take a risk, and
be brave.
New tools picked up by old hands.
New styles and ways of working.
New skills and the joy of learning.
There is freedom in the imagining.
There is value in the reimagining.
