Join us by Lighting the way.
To replace the beloved Bolsover Lantern Parade tradition this year Junction Arts has created ‘Lighting the Way’; a special socially distanced event for you and your family so you can create lanterns of hope in your home.
For the past 26 years we have celebrated the coming of winter by creating lanterns with the Bolsover community in a festival of light. Thousands of people line the streets of Bolsover to watch our annual Lantern Parade as families and people of all ages carry their lit lanterns around the town. Unfortunately, the parade can’t take shape as normal due to the Covid-19 pandemic, so instead we hope you will join us to create and light a lantern in your home as a symbol of celebration, union and hope.
Junction Arts are working with lantern artists Jess Kemp and Ruth Pigott to create a Hope at Home Lantern Kit that will include a full set of materials and instructions (more details below). This will be available to buy from The Bolsover Town Hall and other supporting local businesses Page DIY (Cotton Street) and Gifted With Love. Have fun at home and create, construct and customise your lanterns ready to unite together as we invite the lantern making community to light up their lanterns at 5pm on Saturday 28th November 2020. As the windows and gardens of homes around Bolsover light up to mark what should have been the 27th anniversary of the Bolsover Festival of Light, we can all be reminded of our togetherness; locally as a community and globally. We are looking forward to celebrating Bolsover’s lantern tradition in these challenging times and seeing your fantastic lanterns take shape.
Please note that as the parade is cancelled, there is no free entry to Bolsover Castle for residents for this date.
