Get Creative Kids
Artist lead ‘drop in’ creative workshops for children and young people during the school holidays.

South Normanton 2019
We delivered arts activities in South Normanton throughout the school holidays in 2019; Easter, Summer, October and Christmas.
The programme covered a wide variety of art forms and workshops took place at both the Post Mill Centre and library.
The activities were funded by the Parish Council which enabled us to offer everything free of charge and children, their parents and carers all took part with enthusiasm, helped along by our brilliant artists!
South Normanton and Pinxton 2018
Building on the success of Get Creative Kids in Shirebrook and Creswell in 2017, we are now delivered the project in South Normanton and Pinxton.
Arts and creative activities took place during the school holidays through to December at The Post Mill Centre in South Normanton and Pinxton Village Hall for children under 11 years of age.
Artists Dawn Turner and Heidi Luker put together an exciting programme of free drop in workshops to appeal to all interests.
Shirebrook and Creswell 2017
During the summer holidays a new project called Get Creative Kids took place. A series of arts workshops were delivered in Shirebrook and Creswell, aimed at children and young people and all free of charge. They were diverse in art form to appeal to as broad a range of interests as possible and included hat making, acetate mobiles, jam jar lanterns and bandana and flag printing.
A popular workshop was making a bugbot using a toothbrush, battery and small motor –everyone who took part really enjoyed it especially watching the bugs dancing round the table!
In addition to the workshops we also provided a free packed lunch for every child. In Creswell they were courtesy of St. Mary Magdalene Church and the DCC Food Share scheme and in Shirebrook, volunteers from Shirebrook Parish Church made up the lunch bags from food donated by Shirebrook Coop.
Over the course of six weeks we delivered 24 workshops and 2 celebration events. Local children took up over 350 workshop places – quite an achievement for our two artists Heidi Luker and Dawn Turner!
Get Creative Kids was funded by a Healthy Bolsover Grant, the Elmton, Hodthorpe and Creswell Big Local and a donation from Andrew Anderson.
