Junction Arts Wins Champion Charity Award

Junction Arts Wins Champion Charity Award

We were delighted to receive the Champion Charity award at the BrightLife Champions Against Loneliness Awards 2024, on Saturday 16th March.

The awards acknowledge and reward those members of the public who have been champions against loneliness in Chesterfield, Bolsover, & NE Derbyshire.  Junction Arts was nominated due to our health and wellbeing project Creswell Gets More Creative, which has been running for five years and aims to combat loneliness and isolation by bringing older people together to get creative.

BrightLife is a Chesterfield-based charity that aims to prevent loneliness and isolation occurring amongst older people living in Chesterfield, Bolsover and North East Derbyshire.  Other awards on the night included Young Person, Volunteer, Carer and Neighbour.

Junction Arts Project Coordinator, Jane Wells, who collected the award said: “It’s wonderful to be recognised for the work that we do in Creswell and to be nominated by the participants makes it extra special.  We started a small group five years ago and it’s grown considerably, with the participants now running and leading some workshops!  As a group, they meet outside of our creative sessions and have formed a strong friendship network, which we’re incredibly proud of.

“BrightLife is a great organisation and we’d like to thank them for all their work in the community as well as the other award winners.”

Creswell Gets More Creative participant, Sheila Martin nominated Junction Arts for the award, she said: “For me, it’s a morning out of the house and where I get to talk to people, I live on my own and I need a social life and this has become my social life.  Everyone is so nice and it’s a lovely atmosphere, it’s improved my life 100% and it has given me the confidence to do things on my own.”
