Community Group: Craft Club, Sleaford
Artists: Maria Manning, Taylor Doggett, Phiona Richards & Kelly Barfoot.
Artforms: Fashion design, textiles and mixed-media.
The Craft Club participated in artist-led workshops, both online and face-to-face, to create their own unique 'Creative Apron'. Learning new techniques such as cyanotype, appliqué and embroidery, the participants made their own aprons and then decorated and embellished them, depicting themes of place and experiences that proved so invaluable during lockdown. The 'Creative Apron' was chosen as a symbol of domesticity, but also a protective suit ensuring the wearer is ready for whatever activity may lay ahead, or even a cape for the new superheroes of our time.

Community groups collaboration:

Craft Club, Sleaford

Community Group: Craft Club, Sleaford
Age Of Participants: 18+
Artforms: Textiles: specifically sewing, print-making (cyanotypes), stitching & applique
This project has allowed participants of the Craft Club, to reflect on the experiences of the past year, revisit experiences made, emotions felt and new skills gained. Participants developed new textile skills and formed new friendships; using an apron as their canvas to create a new personal artwork.

The project was delivered through online workshops as well as at face-to-face sessions at the Hub to enable more people to take part, due to the pandemic and also other access challenges such as geographic location or health issues.
The aprons will be exhibited at the Hub in May 2022.

"Everyone was just so lovely, and we all were helping each other out [...] and encouraging each other to try out different things. Over the few weeks, the 6 weeks, we became really good friends. Some of the other people are going to join the craft club, so we ’ll be able to meet up again which is fantastic.”
