On June 10th we took a group of people to London and took part in a truly historic event.
Since April, women and girls from across Bolsover district have been working with artist Karina Thompson to make a banner commemorating the Representation of the People Act, giving the first British women the right to vote.
The women who came together on the streets a hundred years ago made themselves visible with handmade flags, banners, pins and rosettes and we contributed to this once in a lifetime opportunity to celebrate the achievements of those brave women in the same way.
One hundred female artists were commissioned to work with communities across the UK to create 100 centenary banners as part of the PROCESSIONS project.
Junction Arts were so proud to have been one of the selected organisations and to have worked with such a wonderful group of women and girls who represented Bolsover and the County of Derbyshire with such enthusiasm and dignity.
Our banner, featuring 100 smiles and the slogan ‘Smile, it confuses your enemy’ was surely one of the most photographed of the day and caught everyone’s imagination.
The event was covered by international reporters and broadcast around the world and we made sure we were caught on camera as much as possible!
Here is a link to the BBC coverage of the event.

On behalf of everyone who took part in PROCESSIONS we would like to take this opportunity to thank Artichoke, producers the event, for inviting us to be involved and the commissioners 14-18 NOW.
More information about this fantastic project will soon be on our website along with a selection of images from the project.
