September Taster Sessions For Next Gen
Junction Arts is launching a series of taster sessions to give 16 to 24-year-olds a chance to discover how Next Gen can help them kickstart a creative career!
The spray-painting taster sessions will be led by artists Lucie Maycock and Dave Elsom on Friday 20th, Monday 23rd and Friday 27th of September. The sessions will give young people a chance to see what Next Gen has to offer plus they’ll be able to meet the Junction Arts team and see where West Studios is.
Project Coordinator, Nathan Hamer said: “Next Gen is a collective of 16-24-year-olds passionate about developing their creative skills and building a strong network within the arts community. We provide a supportive environment where young creatives can collaborate, learn from experienced artists, and showcase their work to the world.
“The taster sessions will allow young people to come and find out more while getting creative and having fun. The workshops will be friendly and relaxed, with no pressure to sign up on the day.”
The 2024/25 Next Gen cohort will attend regular workshops with established artists to learn new techniques and then collaborate as a group to plan, curate and organise a professional exhibition, featuring their work.
Past participant, Emma White said: “Next Gen allowed me to do different things and learn different skills, most importantly it showed me how to take the next step in what I wanted to do. I would recommend Next Gen to any young person who is looking to pursue a creative career, being part of this project will help you to achieve your goal.”
The program runs from September to May, with regular meetings at West Studios in Chesterfield. During this time, participants will have the opportunity to:
- Attend specialised workshops and masterclasses led by established artists.
- Work on your projects and receive personalised feedback.
- Contribute to the planning and execution of a collective exhibition.
All sessions are free, plus snacks are provided.
