This summer, as part of our Six Pillars project, we ran a schedule of free arts workshops for 11-18-year-olds (25 for SEND) who struggle with low self-esteem, anxiety, find it difficult to build relationships or are SEND.

The activities took place between 25th July and 24th August in Bolsover, Clowne, Dronfield, and Clay Cross.

Working with with seven professional artists we delivered a varied programme of workshops:

  • Film making
  • Animation
  • Messy paint
  • Photography
  • Re-cycled sculptures
  • Lego/ lino printing
  • Boom Whackers/ accessible music

The young people were amazing and created some fantastic films, images and works of art.

Here’s what they thought of the sessions:

How have the creative sessions made you feel?

  • Very happy and proud of myself.
  • Happy because you can express your feelings.
  • Relaxed, calm, happy.

What have you enjoyed about the sessions?

  • That we got to do a lot of things, not just one thing and it’s so much fun just being so messy for once.
  • That there was no pressure or time limit.
  • I enjoyed the sessions because they’re calming and relaxing.
