Tapton Lock Festival is a free family fun filled weekend event that Junction Arts delivers in partnership with Derbyshire County Council Countryside Services.
Tapton Lock Festival is a free family fun filled weekend event that Junction Arts delivers in partnership with Derbyshire County Council Countryside Services. This festival celebrates Tapton Lock; a wonderful area of waterways and wildlife, and encourages people to come along to visit this beautiful hidden spot.
Tapton Lock is special because it has the only Visitor’s Centre on the Chesterfield Canal, which makes it an ideal place to start exploring the canal and the Trans Pennine Trail southern link. It is also a great place to find out more information about self-guided walks, bicycle rides or to stop and buy refreshments and gifts from the café.
The festival weekend brings families, friends, pets and local businesses together to escape outdoors, for a memorable and exciting weekend outside. Everyone is welcome to come along and have a go at one of our brilliant activities such as the art & craft workshops, climbing, kayaking or be entertained by our spectacular programme that changes year on year for an extraordinary enjoyable visit. Refreshments are available throughout the day from independent traders and the Visitor’s Centre is open selling snacks, drinks, ice creams and canal boat rides.
Tapton Celebration Weekend was a great success. As part of our rural living programme we ran an activity making paper birds, drawing inspiration from the surrounding area.
We worked with the Derbyshire Countryside Service to put on the event that surpassed the success of last year and offered local people and visitors alike a weekend of free activities and
performances for all tastes and interests.
