World Champion Legend John Lowe Donates Exclusive Artworks to Chesterfield Postcard Show
Visitors to this year’s Chesterfield Postcard Show will have the rare opportunity to purchase one of three exclusive artworks donated by three-time world champion darts player John Lowe.
Now in its fifth year, the much-loved exhibition of mini masterpieces returns with a special showcase of original artwork created by local artists. Among the highlights are three unique pieces by Lowe, originally from Tupton and now living in Chesterfield. While best known for his legendary darts career, including three World Championship titles, two World Masters wins, and two World Cup singles victories, Lowe is also a talented artist. He has kindly contributed three prints to the exhibition, including a painting of a unicorn, a nod to the Unicorn Brass darts he famously used during his career.
Organised by Junction Arts in partnership with local artist Dave Elsom, the Chesterfield Postcard Show raises vital funds for community arts projects across the town. This year’s theme, “Things We Love,” brings together over 30 local artists, each contributing an original A6 postcard-sized piece. The exhibition features a diverse range of media, including illustration, textiles, printmaking, and digital art.
Also new for this year, on Saturday 9th May, visitors can take part in a Postcard Show Art Club led by Dave Elsom. The session is suitable for all ages and abilities and costs £5 per person.
The exhibition runs from 5–15 May at Junction Arts’ new creative hub on Station Road in Chesterfield town centre. Visitors can purchase postcard-sized artworks created by both professional artists and community members for just £10 each.
Since launching in 2021, the Chesterfield Postcard Show has displayed nearly 1,500 mini artworks and raised more than £3,500 to support local community arts initiatives. Last year’s exhibition funded an additional three months of the charity’s “Cosy Crafts” warm space sessions, offering free creative activities for people experiencing loneliness and isolation during the cost-of-living crisis.
This year’s show has been sponsored by Andy Wilson, owner of Full and Frank Mental Health Presentations.
